The Future Financial SkillBridge program supports active-duty service members preparing to transition into civilian careers. Participants gain exposure to the financial services industry through structured training, mentorship from experienced professionals, and real-world skill development

Who This Program Is For

The Future Financial SkillBridge program is designed for active-duty service members within 180 days of separation who are exploring career opportunities in financial services.

Participants in the program learn about financial planning, client communication, professional development, and industry fundamentals while working alongside experienced mentors.

• Members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces

• Service members approved by their command to participate in SkillBridge

About the skillbridge program

The Future Financial SkillBridge program provides structured career exploration and professional development for transitioning service members interested in the financial services industry.

 

Participants engage in mentor-guided training that introduces the core principles of financial planning, client relationship management, and professional communication.

 

The program is designed to help service members translate the leadership, discipline, and problem-solving skills developed in the military into valuable capabilities in the civilian workforce.

Program Structure & Training Plans

The Future Financial SkillBridge program offers multiple training plan options depending on the amount of time remaining in a service member’s transition window.

Each plan follows a structured progression that includes industry orientation, mentor-guided training, client engagement practice, and licensing preparation.

8 WEEK

A focused introduction to the financial services industry designed for service members with a shorter transition timeline. Participants gain foundational industry knowledge, observe professionals, and begin preparing for licensing.

12 WEEK
training plan

A balanced training experience that expands on industry fundamentals while introducing practical client engagement and mentorship opportunities.

16 WEEK 
Training Plan

An extended training plan that allows participants to develop deeper industry knowledge while practicing communication, client interaction, and financial planning concepts.

20 WEEK
Training Plan

A comprehensive program combining structured mentorship, client engagement practice, and expanded preparation for professional licensing exams.

Comprehensive Training Plan

The most in-depth SkillBridge experience offered through Future Financial. Participants receive extended mentorship, practical training, and full preparation for transitioning into financial services careers.

Mentorship & Training

Participants work alongside experienced professionals who provide mentorship and guidance throughout the program.

Mentors help participants understand the expectations of the financial services industry, develop professional communication skills, and gain insight into building long-term client relationships.

East Coast Training Mentor
Jacob Forston

Jacob Forston volunteers as a mentor and trainer through the Future Financial initiative, supporting transitioning service members who are exploring careers in financial services.

 

After more than two decades of leadership in the United States Marine Corps, Jacob now helps participants understand the industry, leadership principles, and the professional opportunities available within financial services.

 

Participation in the program does not require participants to work with any specific advisor or firm after completion.

Phase 1

Orientation & Industry Foundations

Participants are introduced to the financial services industry, core professional values, and the foundational knowledge required to succeed in financial planning careers.

Phase 2

Observation & Skill Development

Participants observe experienced professionals, develop product knowledge, practice lead generation strategies, and build familiarity with tools used across the financial services industry.

Phase 3

Client Engagement Practice

Under mentor supervision, participants begin participating in client meetings, practicing communication skills and learning how financial strategies are presented and implemented.

Phase 4

Licensing Preparation

Participants prepare for state insurance licensing exams while strengthening their financial product knowledge and professional readiness.

Participants in the program begin preparing for the professional licensing exams required to work in financial services.

 

For eligible SkillBridge participants, the Department of Defense may cover the cost of these licensing exams. This allows transitioning service members to begin their civilian careers with professional credentials already in progress.

 

This creates a significant advantage when entering the financial services industry.
